Migraines & Headaches

The first, most important thing to do is to drink the recommended amount of water for your weight (at least 60oz p/day) depending on your size and activity level. If you have been drinking less than that on a regular basis you are most likely chronically dehydrated and that is bound to cause headaches and trigger migraines.

Next in level of importance is sleeping at least 6 hrs p/night, avoiding foods that aren’t good for your individual constitution, and getting enough physical movement/exercise (walking for 20 minutes a day is a good start).

Adrenals and Caffeine… A lot of people that come in to see me drink coffee every day. This is not healthy. Yes, you’ll find plenty of articles talking about how coffee is actually a good thing for you, even on a daily basis; I disagree. It basically blocks your brain’s receptors from responding to your body’s true energy level & needs, this is not healthy. It numbs your mind’s response to your body when it needs something like rest and overtaxes your adrenal glands. I know life can be challenging, and showing up “happy” to work is not always the easiest thing to do; but the sooner you learn how to do that without coffee, the more in integrity with your body and nature you’ll be. This harmonious integrity you’ll then have within yourself will affect all areas of your life, including headaches and migraines.

In terms of what I can do for you, craniosacral therapy is the best long term physical treatment modality I have found for helping my patients. When done consistently as a preventative therapy, it keeps your nervous system in a state that is prohibitive to migraines and headaches.
